Employability and Skills Training
Every year we run a full-immersive, interactive event which brings the whole The Data Lab MSc cohort together to work in teams on real life problems in Scotland. You will learn how to apply your data science and AI academic skills to explore and evolve solutions through a design thinking for data projects approach. We are exploring new ways of delivering this innovation challenge event building on the success of this year’s on-line event: we will let you know soon what this will involve. You will need to commit a maximum of 7 working days to this element of the programme. This may be a single week-long block or shorter blocks spread over the year.
Read more about how our students tackled this challenge “How might Glasgow’s businesses take action to create a world-leading circular city?” here. The winners of the challenge were profiled by The National and featured in the Glasgow Business magazine.
Data Ethics and Responsible Innovation MOOC
All The Data Lab MSc students are required to complete a compulsory online course on Data Ethics and Responsible Innovation developed by The Data Lab and the University of Edinburgh. Students who successfully complete the course will receive full EdX certification. There will be two opportunities to take the course with the first run starting in November and the second in February. Read more here (but don’t register yet).
Due to the restrictions caused by Covid-19 and in line with Scottish Government advice, we aim to offer – at least for the first half of the academic year- all of our events and training on-line. If we move to in-person events, you will be eligible to claim reasonable travel expenses from your university. We will keep your informed about this as the year progresses.
The Data Lab MSc Certificate
This will be issued at the end of the programme to those students who have demonstrated engagement and have attended all of the core events during The Data Lab MSc programme.
