Calling all potential data scientist stand-up comedians!

Do you work in data science or AI or tech? Are you always making people laugh at work or social gatherings about the work that you do? Are you full of interesting and funny stories to tell about your work? If so, ever fancied getting up on stage and doing it in front of a super friendly audience? If so, we’d like to hear from you! The Data Lab are currently planning a public engagement event for October that will involve brilliant Bright Club* style performances for data/AI themed fun and fascinating night.

To prep any willing volunteers, we would ask you to try performing in a proper Bright Club Edinburgh show. Held at the Stand Comedy Club in Edinburgh, the next show takes place on 23 July 2019 and the call for performers is now live. You get training to prepare you and you have a super supportive audience as well as super supportive co-performers. And once you know what you’re doing, we’d love to have you at the event we’re planning in October!

You don’t have to be an academic, we just want people who are specialists or researchers in their field. As the Data Lab, we’re of course looking for people who work in data/tech/AI and it would be great if it happened to be in health related field but we’re happy to have anyone willing to have a go at this great opportunity to do something a wee bit different.

So if you’re up for it, please let us know! Email Steph on (steph.wright@thedatalab.com).

*Bright Club is a collection of comedy-club-style events in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Australia promoting public engagement by scientists, academics and others with specialist knowledge. It has been described by The Guardian as “a ‘thinking person’s’ comedy night”,[1] and by Londonist as “where funny meets brains”. (source – good ol Wikipedia)
