What is the UK Industrial Strategy?

What does it mean for business and for Scotland?

What challenges will the Scottish, UK and global economies face in the coming decades?

How is the UK Government’s policy approach adapting to support businesses and organisations to thrive in a changing world?

The Scottish Business Taskforce, established by the Secretary of State for Scotland in 2017, will discuss the strategic vision and purpose behind the UK Industrial Strategy and its role in supporting innovation, delivering collaboration, increasing productivity and driving inclusive economic growth in Scotland.

4. The Grand Challenges: Ageing Society, AI & Data, Future of Mobility and Clean Growth

What impact will the Grand Challenges have on UK Government and BEIS policy?

What opportunities are there for my business, organisation or sector?

Industry leaders and the Scottish Business Taskforce’s Grand Challenge Champions will discuss each of the respective Grand Challenges – an Ageing Society, AI & Data, the Future of Mobility and Clean Growth – which are the core foundations of the UK Industrial Strategy.

This session will include a Q&A with delegates.

What opportunities are there for Scotland?

Where does my business, organisation or idea go from here?

Innovate UK, which manages and distributes UK Industrial Strategy funds, will outline the funding opportunities for Scottish business and academia. Numerous policy strands and funding streams come under its umbrella, including the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, the Strength in Places Fund, Sector Deals and City Region Deals. He will provide useful guidance for how to navigate this evolving and complex funding landscape, while signposting to additional support from Knowledge Transfer Networks, Scottish Enterprise and others.

This session will include a Q&A with delegates.

7. Case Studies: Scottish Success in UKIS

1.30pm – 3pm

How have those business and organisations who bid for and won UK Industrial Strategy funds succeeded?

What lessons can others learn from their experience?

Business and academic leaders, including SMEs, who have engaged with the UK Industrial Strategy and successfully secured funding will reflect on their journeys, providing advice and inspiration for others to follow their example. Businesses and organisations based in Scotland who have led or been part of successful bids or bid consortia will present lessons learned, from identifying collaboration partners to navigating the application process. Each speaker will represent a case study rich in practical insights into how to develop, write and position a quality, winning bid.

This session will include a Q&A with delegates.
