Charities across Scotland require digital specialists to join their board of trustees. Digital specialists across Scotland want to volunteer their time effectively in a strategic role but often don’t know where to start. Digital Trustees Scotland is all about making that happen.

Our Edinburgh event gives charities and those working in the technology sector the chance to connect via matchmaking, talks and more – fueled by tea, coffee and nibbles. We aim to have a 50/50 charity/digital attendees split.

Digital professionals – this is your chance to meet a range of charities and consider joining one of their boards as a trustee. We are looking for data analysts, service designers, IT specialists, cyber security experts, developers, UX professionals, digital comms & marketing professionals and digital all-rounders.

Charity professionals & volunteers – this is your chance to find a tech professional who can help move forward your organisation in the right direction.

You will hear from digital professionals about their trustee journey and charities sharing their experiences of having a digtial expert on their board. There will be an opportunity to discuss the role of digital trustees during a Q&A plus we’ll be signposting you to a range of useful resources on the night to help you recruit the right digital trustee. Come together to explore how we can get digital on the agenda of every charity board in Scotland.

Why is this stuff important?

The Charity Digital Skills report, published today, finds that 69% of charities think that their trustees are lacking digital expertise, and a third of charities cite lack of understanding or buy in from trustees as one of the biggest barriers to their organisation getting the most from digital.

How many people can come from my charity?

One person per charity. Any organisations registered with OSCR are welcome to attend.

Who are the charity ticket for?

You should be working for a charity and ready to recruit a new trustee. There’s no obligation to recruit from the pool of tech talent on the night. You should be senior enough to influence decisions about the importance of digitial trustees within your organisation. One ticket per person, per organisation only.

Why do you have different digital professional ticket types?

We want to ensure there’s a spread of digital professions in the room as different charities have different. Allocating tickets by role type helps us ensure that spread. We’re aware that the groupings are quite crude but it’s the best we could do without having hundreds of ticket types. One ticket per person only. The main categories are as below, if your tech profession isn’t on the list ping an email to ross{@} about coming along:

– Data analyst or scientist

– IT, networks or security support/analyst

– Software developer, web developer/designer or UX specialist

– Digital marketing, SEO, social media, PR, comms or content specialist

– Service designer

– Digital all rounder

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No. If you’ve booked in advance, simply turn up. Your name will be on the door. Do not turn up without having secured a ticket as places are very limited.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

Yes – if you cannot make it you may transfer the ticket to another colleague within your organisation.

Where can I contact the organiser with any questions?

You can email ross{@}, tweet @thirdsectorlab or use the ‘contact the organiser’ option on this page. If you have accessibility or dietary requirements please email karen{@}
